After a student has successfully completed his or her college training, passed examinations set by the colleges and completed required field training under the supervision of an Optician registered in the Province of Ontario, he or she may then attempt the examinations set by the College of Opticians. Only when those examinations have been successfully completed, will a license to practice be granted.
The written examinations cover a wide range of topics relating to various aspects of eye glasses dispensing, contact lens fitting, mathematics and physics, lens design, applied optics, as well as anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology as they apply to the human eye.
Practical and oral examinations are given in the use of a wide variety of modern optical instruments; preparation, construction, fitting and follow-up of contact lenses and eye glasses; interpretation of prescription issues by Optometrists and Ophthalmologists and pathology related to the human eye. |
